We are a group of people passionate about helping the people of East Africa. While those we help have agency and skills, we come alongside them to provide assistance.
Ethical Charity Statement
Hope Is Moving believes that every individual has the right to be seen and treated with dignity. We are committed to ethical storytelling. We will never use exploitative, sensationalized, or disempowering imagery of hardship to generate sympathy or increase donations. Instead, we pledge to share authentic, respectful narratives that highlight the strength, agency, and humanity of the people we serve. We view our participants not as passive beneficiaries, but as active partners in building a more equitable society.
Big Ideas, Real Impact: What we do and where the contributions go.
Below are the initiatives that we support. Aside from the teachers’ salaries sponsorships, contributions to Hope Is Moving are distributed among these other areas.
Children’s Home
The largest project for us is a children’s home in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Our goal is to raise $35,000 per year for operating costs of the home that include salaries for the staff, food, and other day-to-day expenses.
The immediate goal is to have operating costs for the first year raised by August 2027. There is currently a house that can accommodate thirty children.
Over time, the goal is to expand on the property into a complex that can house 300 children, have classrooms, offices, a medical facility, a gymnasium, and other amenities to facilitate the wellbeing of orphans in an area that has seen steady conflict for thirty years. This is an ongoing project that will involve work from approximately ten different organizations in building and expanding the facility.
Teachers’ Salary Sponsorship
The one area that is outside of our general operating budget is the Teachers’ Salary Sponsorship Program. We are looking for individuals or groups to sponsorship the salary of dedicated teachers in schools affiliated with Harvest Christian Church (one of our partners) for one year. Below are the pictures of some of the teachers that we need help to sponsor and the school where they teach.

Lunches for training sessions.
We assist with training in two areas. First, we send teams to help build English skills for the people of Rwanda. With English being a relatively new official language, training is vital to the educational and economic wellbeing of the people of Rwanda. English is a necessity for employment in many fields. Second, we offer pastor training (starting in 2027) to help pastors of local congregations better serve their members.
One of the biggest expenses is the daily lunches that we provide for the English learners and pastors. For many of the attendees, this is the most complete meal that they may have on that day. (We also provide a small breakfast.)
A portion of our general fund goes to help with the cost of lunches, until we reach the amount needed for a given year. (The cost is typically around $2000 per week for five lunches.)

Scholarships for teachers and pastors.
Angelique
Angelique is a teacher at the Harvest Christian Church Child Hope Center in Kimironko, Kigali, Rwanda. She is pursuing her university education. She is pictured here with her two children.
Part of our general fund will go to assist teachers and pastors with scholarships to continue their education. Education is vital for both groups.

Oscar is a pastor with Harvest Christian Church and Vice-Bishop. He has been pursuing his degree in pastoral studies to facilitate his work in the church.
Benevolence Fund
Part of our general fund will go into a benevolent fund to help with short-term temporary needs. Those who need to fill a gap to pay rent, buy food or medicine, or pay medical bills, etc. can receive help via this fund that will be administered by our partner in Africa, Bishop Theophile Rugibira.
